Some of these important parts may include the struts on the door and the garage door track. If these parts were damaged in any type of way the functionality of your door will be compromised. I damaged one section of my garage door. Can I buy a replacement section or do I need a new door? It’s a question we hear frequently from homeowners. The good news is that more often than not you can replace the damaged section without having to replace the entire door. Replacement sections for Clopay steel garage doors and Clopay wood garage doors are available from your local dealer or retailer provided we still manufacture the door model you own. What Information Is Needed to Order A Replacement? To order a replacement section, the dealer will need to know the door model, the size of the section to be replaced, the color, and which section is needed: top, bottom or middle. The serial number is the easiest way to determine the door model you have. If your garage door was manufactured in the last ten years, the 15- to 16-digit serial number is located on the interior bottom section of the door. A Clopay dealer will install the new panel section when it arrives. Depending on which part of the door is damaged, the service technician will disconnect the garage door opener and springing system, restack the door sections, reconnect the hardware and opener, and check to make sure the door is operating smoothly. Should I Repair or Replace My Garage Door? There are situations when replacing a garage door panel section isn’t the best option. If more than one section is damaged or your garage door is so old that replacement sections are no longer available, it may be more cost-effective to replace your garage door with a new one. There are special considerations for replacing sections on custom garage doors and certain Clopay carriage house door models. If you own one of these doors, please consult a distributor for a recommendation. Long-term exposure to sunlight and weather can alter the color of a garage door so it’s possible the replacement section may not be an exact match to the original door color. To lessen this effect, you can wax the undamaged sections with car wax in order to give an equal shine to every part of your door. Can I replace the damaged sections myself?YES, if you have good knowledge of the workings of a garage door. This section is connected to your spring (counterweight) system which is under extreme tension. Any mishandling of this section can cause serious injuries. And if I need to replace my whole garage door?Is your garage door so damaged that you need to replace more than a couple sections?
